Demolition activity in the sub-continent remained stable, with some positive sentiment starting to creep back into the market as the holy month of Ramadan is coming to an end. India’s domestic price of steel illustrated again a downward trend displaying its volatile nature, while in Bangladesh expectations remained high but cautious, as the local shipbreakers association is reportedly trying to cancel or postpone the levies / taxes imposed on imported vessels. GLIMMER OF HOPE!
As Eid holidays descend across the sub-continent, a glimmer of hope arose on the back of news of a decisive meeting to be held on June 29th, between the Bangladesh Shipbreakers Association (BSBA) and the Bangladeshi Finance Ministry where it is expected that the punitive taxes imposed on the Bangladeshi ship-recycling sector via the budget of June 1st, may finally be overturned.
